Still a threat??

http://www.onenewsnow.com/Perspectives/Default.aspx?id=940576

The above link pretty much sums up where our southern border and ultimately our country will be headed. Time after time has proven that what happens on our borders will affect us in our communities three weeks later. Pay attention to the news stories on the border and then watch the news in your own community. Drug prices down, violence up, innocent lives caught up in the violence. Its not senseless violence, its very well thought out and calculated violence.

Goldfish, Sunnies, Catfish.

I did my semi-annual cleaning of Jordan's Pond today. It was nasty, dirty and disgusting. Not so much from the outside but inside it was a mess. All the leaves that fell last year during the fall were just piled on the pond bottom.
During the cleaning process I was VERY pleasantly surprised to find TWO sunnies which I didn't think made it through the winter. They were small but had good colors. The goldfish were amazing in size, downright fat. This is good as I'm not the only one who made it through the winter in this condition...lol. I also found Mr. Chompers my catfish. Cranky thing he is but he's there too. I drained most of the pond, cleaned what I could and now I'm refilling. Another good sign was my big bullfrog is back.

Patience, Patience, Patience...

So on our second to last day of vacation we pack up and head north to Manteo NC to hit the NC Aquarium. Beautiful day for it. Good music on the Sirius radio, baby fell asleep all was good until... Until we hit traffic. If you read my first blog from vacation, I hate traffic. I loathe it. If you can't drive on the edge of sanity please pull over and let me by.
The cause way connecting Hatteras Island with the mainland is ALWAYS under construction and it's very frustrating. In the middle of the bridge they have an improvised traffic light system. It seemed to be improperly working. I was seven cars back, no traffic coming the other way...hey someone has to take the lead. Let's go....I pull out ready to lead the pack through the poorly operating traffic light system when I hear a beep. No biggie, some people get upset. BUT the beep turned out to be from a beautiful, dark blue, Chevy Tahoe which just happened to be an unmarked Dare County Sheriff K9 car. How does Homer Simpson make that noise...DOH!! So embarrased and totally deserving of a ticket the deputy came up and asked me what made me so special that I could go around everyone. I was so embarrased that I didn't even show my police ID and fully deserved a ticket. The Deputy was great and told me what needed to be said and sent me on my way. I need to be more patient....patience, patience, patience.

Pelicans, Sand Pipers, and Rats with Wings

Yes its odd that a "tough guy" who has a wonderful gun collection, enjoys all of the Rambo movies (was there a doubt) and anything on the military channel would be blogging about birds and vacations.
Well, I'm here and enjoying the simple things in life. When it comes to birds, my favorite is the Pelican. What an absolutely amazing and graceful bird. You say ugly...its your right but I'd say you are wrong. I had the unique oppurtunity to actually "catch" a pelican via rod and reel in Treasure Island Fl some years back. Poor thing dove on my bait. I hope it was a self correcting mistake on his part. Long story short, watch pelicans when you can. What precision and grace they fly with. The sand pipers are plain ole cute and a comedy routine to watch. The Rats with Wings aka Sea Gulls. Well actually they are smart and amazing fliers as well. Next time one flies past you throw your arm up like you're throwing him something and see how quick and deliberate he can be. Then run away because you'll be swarmed by a dozen of them in seven seconds. Enjoy!

Sunrises, dolphins, and Hornets

Here on vacation and three of my favorite things here in the Outer Banks are the Sunrises, the dolphins, and the hornets. Each are rarer than the previous. The sunrises are, to me, one of the most beautiful, peaceful times in the world. Here we're on the third story, overlooking the ocean. Its just amazing. I try to get up each day before the sun comes up, wrap myself in a blanket, gets some coffee and just sit and watch. Watching the stars slowly fade and the sky gently brighten its true peace.
The dolphins which we have seen more often over the last few years, make me smile everytime I see them. Their grace, their playfulness, and just their presence is worth being here. My sister who was down last week saw a full size whale swimming just hundreds of yards off shore with the dolphins. I hope to see him too. (or her...lol) Dolphins equal Dreams!!
And yes the Hornets and I ain't talking bugs. I'm talking the most awesome war jets ever the F/A-18s baby!! Yeah!! I believe they fly out of Cherry Point NC and every now and then they buzz the beach usually in tandem. Truly an awesome site. The F/A-18 is my all time favorite war plane and featured in my second novel Holding the Line!! I saw one yestarday. The roar of the engines shakes the sky. Very cool. So in addition to countless other things, these are a few of my favorites! See you tommorow.

Coffee, Rabbits, & Vacation!

Odd title right? I started my vacation at 0400hrs today. Of course it started with good coffee from Dunkin Donuts quickly followed up by a good rabbit on Route 1 South. What is a rabbit you ask? Its the car that is braver (or more foolish) than you regarding the speed limit and you simply "chase" the rabbit at a safe distance with him getting picked off by the hunter or which ever law enforcement group running radar on your favorite road. I don't generally like being the rabbit but sometimes I can't STAND the way people drive. Don't they have any where to be? Wouldn't you rather spend your time on the beach watching the ocean instead of being the "righteous" driver obeying the speed limit? Don't get me wrong, you should follow the speed limit for the most part but come ON? Oh and if you are one of those righteous drivers...that's great and I applaud you. Just simply pull over when you see the lunatic behind you trying to get somewhere because while he enjoys driving, really doesn't want to spend any more time in a car or on the roadway than absolutely neccesary. Enjoy!

Happy Feburary!

Its Feb 1st...woo whoo... winters moving along. Its also Super Bowl Sunday...not too interested. Here's my prediction. Arizona will win. Or at least cover the point spread. Its 0835 EST.
So...how about that Glenn Beck. If any of you have been watching or listening to him, he is bringing to light that the second biggest threat to the US outside of Iran (don't know why? Seriously) is Mexico. Mexico is in turmoil now and they are actually talking about a possible collapse of their economy. Bad news for us as more and more people will turn to the billion dollar a year industry of drug smuggling. By the way.... drugs are still a HUGE problem in the US and not getting any better.
As my second novel "Holding the Line" is due to be released, I just found it interesting that the highly reported problems with our border and its consequences have slipped out of the lime light, or we've just grown cold to them, again.
